Spill Awareness

Overview

The Spill Awareness eLearning course provides personnel working in the onshore and offshore oil & gas industry with the knowledge required to recognise, prevent and safely respond to small spills in the workplace. The course introduces the causes of spills, associated hazards, safe response procedures, and the correct use of spill response equipment to minimise risks to personnel and the environment.

Developed through interactive eLearning modules, the course helps delegates understand their responsibilities during the early stages of a spill incident and the importance of preventing environmental contamination through safe working practices and effective spill response.

Who is it For?

This course is suitable for personnel working in onshore and offshore oil & gas operations who may encounter spills as part of their normal work activities, including:

• Operations personnel
• Production personnel
• Maintenance technicians
• Mechanical and electrical technicians
• Contractors working on oil & gas facilities
• Personnel responsible for using spill kits or assisting with basic spill response

Course Delivery

The course is completed online through interactive eLearning modules with knowledge assessments throughout the training. The course is available in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, Thai and Turkish.

Assessment is completed during the course and forms part of the expected learning duration. The approximate course duration is 30 minutes.

Upon successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

• Describe typical onshore and offshore working environments where spills may occur.
• Explain the causes of spills and methods of preventing spill incidents.
• Recognise different types of spills and understand the associated safety precautions.
• Explain the purpose of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) principles.
• Describe how absorbent materials work and when they should be used.
• Identify the contents of a spill kit and explain the correct use of spill response equipment.
• Describe the basic stages of spill response.
• Explain the principles of offshore oil spill response and incident escalation.

  Typical spill hazards encountered during onshore and offshore oil & gas operations.
• Spill Prevention
  Common causes of spills, preventative measures and good housekeeping practices.
• Hazard Recognition
  Recognising spills, associated hazards and important safety precautions.
• COSHH Awareness
  Introduction to the principles of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and the safe management of hazardous substances.
• Absorbent Materials
  Types of absorbent materials, their application and correct selection.
• Spill Kits
  Contents of spill kits and the correct use of spill response equipment.
• Spill Response
  Initial actions, containment, reporting procedures and the basic steps of spill response.
• Offshore Oil Spill Response
  Overview of offshore spill management arrangements and personnel responsibilities.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for this course.

Certificate

Successful completion of the course will result in a certificate of completion issued by RelyOn.
