Control of Work

Overview

This course provides an understanding of the role of the Performing Authority and the systems used to control work safely. It covers Permit to Work requirements, risk assessment, communication, isolations, worksite inspections, handovers, work suspension, and safe completion of work activities.

Personnel involved in planning, authorising, supervising, performing, or controlling work activities in hazardous industries.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to:

• Identify legal requirements and guidance relevant to control of work
• Explain the role and responsibilities of the Performing Authority
• State the purpose of Control of Work systems
• Explain how work is controlled within typical Permit to Work systems
• Identify Control of Work documents and how they are linked
• Identify PTW roles and responsibilities
• Explain hazards, risks, task risk assessment and ALARP
• Prepare and review task risk assessments
• Plan and prepare work activities
• Verify isolations and communicate effectively at the worksite
• Stop work when concerns or changing conditions arise
• Support effective worksite inspections and handovers
• Suspend and complete work safely
• Capture lessons learned and manage waste from work activities
